Texas A&M Rec Sports operates multiple facilities across campus, including the Student Recreation Center, Southside Rec Center, Polo Road Rec Center, Penberthy Rec Sports Complex, PEAP Building and Omar Smith Instructional Tennis Center. Hours vary by facility, semester and break periods, so members are encouraged to check the Rec Sports website or app for the most up-to-date schedules.

STUDENT REC CENTER

The Student Recreation Center, known as “The Rec,” is the flagship facility of Rec Sports at Texas A&M University and one of the top recreational sports centers in the nation. It features 540,000 square feet of recreation space, including a 32,000-square-foot strength and conditioning room, an indoor walking and jogging track, five pools for swimming, diving and instruction, and a 44-foot-tall indoor climbing wall. Guest passes are available for purchase.

SOUTHSIDE REC CENTER

Opened in August 2022, the Southside Rec Center is the newest addition to Rec Sports. Located across the street from the Commons residence halls on Bizzell Street, this facility gives students additional access to recreational space and equipment on the south side of campus. The facility includes over 63,000 square feet of indoor recreational space with an additional 15,000 square feet of space for recreation outdoors. All Rec Sports members and currently enrolled students paying the Rec Sports fee have access to this facility. Guest passes are available for purchase.

POLO ROAD REC CENTER

The Polo Road Rec Center is a convenient option for your fitness needs. Located near the intersection of University Drive and Polo Road, the 28,000-square-foot facility features group fitness classes, a large strength and conditioning area, and personal training services. It is connected to the Polo Road parking garage and is close to the Zachry Engineering Education Complex. Guest passes are available for purchase.

PENBERTHY REC SPORTS COMPLEX

The Penberthy Rec Sports Complex is the Rec Sports department’s outdoor field facility. Located at the corner of George Bush Dr. and Penberthy Blvd., Penberthy has artificial turf and natural grass planning areas available for drop-in recreation, intramural sports, sport clubs, and special events. Penberthy is divided into two complexes: Penberthy North, site of fields 7-13 and the pavilion, is on the north side of George Bush Dr., between the George Bush Library, Mitchell Tennis Center, and E.B. Cushing Stadium. Penberthy South, site of fields 1-6, is on the south side of George Bush Dr., next to the Read House, and adjacent to parking area 58.

PEAP

In partnership with the Department of Kinesiology & Sport Management, the PEAP (Physical Education Activity Program) building offers a variety of fitness and wellness classes to all students at Texas A&M. The 95,146-square-foot facility also features multi-sport courts and areas for gymnastics, fencing, yoga, self-defense, and dancing.

OMAR SMITH INSTRUCTIONAL TENNIS CENTER

Rec Sports has partnered with PEAP to give students access to the Omar Smith Instructional Tennis Center! This facility is home to 15 state-of-the-art tennis courts and 10 pickleball courts. Nine of the tennis courts and all the pickleball courts are lit. This facility is used for Health & Kinesiology classes as well as recreational use by Rec members.
