Student Rec Center

The Student Recreation Center, nicknamed “The Rec”, is the flagship Rec Sports facility at Texas A&M University and one of the premier recreational sports facilities in the nation. Home to 540,000 square feet of recreation space, the Student Recreation Center consists of a myriad of amenities, including over 32,000-square-foot strength and conditioning room, indoor track for walking and jogging, five pools for competitive and recreational swimming, diving and instructional use, and a 44-foot-high indoor climbing wall.

Indoor Courts

  • The Indoor Courts at Texas A&M’s Student Rec Center offer a dynamic space for both sports and recreation enthusiasts. With 10 multi-purpose courts, they can accommodate various activities including basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, and badminton, making them a hub for diverse athletic pursuits. Additionally, there are 14 racquetball, handball, and squash courts available for those seeking fast-paced racquet sports action.

Outdoor Courts

  • For those who prefer the outdoors, the center provides 2 outdoor basketball courts and 4 sand volleyball courts, perfect for enjoying sports in the fresh air. If you need a break from the sun or a place to relax, the shaded pavilion is an ideal spot to unwind in between games.

Well-Equipped Space

  • Features 5 heavy bags, 3 speed bags, and a BoxMaster training station, offering a comprehensive environment for boxing and fitness enthusiasts.

Accessible for Drop-In Recreation

  • Typically open for individuals to use on a drop-in basis, providing flexibility for those looking for impromptu workouts.

Specialty Classes

  • Periodically utilized for boxing-related specialty classes, enhancing the versatility of the room for structured training and group sessions.

Indoor Climbing Facility (ICF) Tower

  • 44-ft. high tower with 3,500 sq. feet of climbing area.
  • Features integral rock and moveable hand/foot holds.
  • Offers 13 top-ropes, 3 auto-belay stations, and 11 bolt lines for lead climbing.
  • Open 7 days a week during the regular semester (excluding holidays).

Bouldering Wall

  • Accessible anytime the building is open.
  • Sign a waiver and watch an informational video at the Rec Center desks to get started.
  • Receives a complimentary wristband once cleared for bouldering.
  • Requirement to display wristband while using the bouldering facility.

Indoor Walking and Running Track

  • Situated on the third floor of the facility.
  • Spans approximately 1/4 mile, providing ample space for walking and running.
  • Equipped with designated areas for stretching, stability balls, and mats, enhancing the track’s functionality for exercise and fitness routines.

Each of the multi-purpose rooms are outfitted with high-end audio video systems and wi-fi and can be set up in a multitude of ways for a wide variety of uses.

Room 1130

  • This 3,500 square foot multi-purpose room is utilized for events, small to moderate sized banquets and gatherings, group fitness and specialty classes, departmental events, programs and presentations. This room has a nice outdoor patio space with views into Blue Bell Park.

Room 1132

  • This room is set up in a fixed auditorium style seating fashion an can seat up to 80 people. It is primarily used for departmental and student meetings and presentations.

Rooms 2221 & 2225

  • These activity/fitness rooms are approximately 2,000 square feet each and are primarily used for group fitness classes, specialty classes, and Wellness Works classes, but are also periodically utilized for a variety of other activities.
    These rooms share a small, adjoining outdoor patio space overlooking Blue Bell Park.

Rooms 2229A & 2229B

  • This large banquet room, when joined, is approximately 6,000 square feet, and when divided, is two separate 3,000 square foot rooms. These rooms are primarily used for large banquets, gatherings, workshops, and presentations and include upscale amenities such as a clouded ceiling, specialized lighting, and a large outdoor patio space overlooking Blue Bell Park.

Natatorium

  • The Texas A&M Rec Sports Natatorium is a modern aquatic facility that features a competitive swimming pool with movable bulkheads for versatility, along with a competitive diving pool equipped with a special needs accessible chair lift. Additionally, there’s a shallow water instructional pool with sloped entry and five lanes, making it ideal for lessons and training. The Natatorium also offers two spas for relaxation and varsity and visiting team locker rooms for convenience. Whether you’re a serious athlete or just seeking aquatic enjoyment, this facility provides a versatile and inclusive environment for all.

Indoor Lap Pool

  • This 8-lane, 25-yard indoor lap pool offers a dedicated space for members and guests to meet their recreational swimming needs. It serves as an essential resource, particularly during large swim meets and events, providing flexibility and convenience to the aquatic community. Whether you’re a competitive swimmer or simply seeking a peaceful place for lap swimming, this indoor pool caters to a wide range of swimming preferences.

Instructional Pool

  • The Texas A&M Rec Sports Instructional Pool is designed with a focus on teaching and skill development,  perfect for swim lessons and water-based instructional programs. It hosts a variety of classes including scuba training, kayak roll clinics, and invigorating water aerobics sessions, making it a hub for both aquatic enthusiasts and those seeking to expand their skills. The pool, equipped with a special needs accessible entrance, offers a comfortable environment with its moderate depth and well-maintained water conditions, catering to individuals of all ages and skill levels. Outdoor Pool

  • The Texas A&M Rec Sports Outdoor Pool offers a refreshing aquatic escape for students and the local community. This spacious outdoor pool includes amenities like lap swimming lanes, water basketball and volleyball, and a children’s play area, making it perfect for both relaxation and recreation. Inclusive Rentals

  • Equipment available for rent to students, staff, faculty, and the general public, making it accessible to a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts.

Responsibility Policy

  • Renters are responsible for keeping the equipment clean and free from damage, with fees applicable for any cleaning or repairs required.

Rental Agreement

  • Renters are required to sign a contract before taking out any equipment, ensuring clarity and adherence to rental terms.

Gear Check-In

  • When returning equipment, plan for additional time to facilitate the check-in process, including setting up and inspecting tents, guaranteeing the equipment’s good condition for future adventurers.

Outdoor Terrace

  • Features a barbeque pit, sink, and outdoor counter space, ideal for outdoor cooking and gatherings.
  • Offers rental space for private events, making it a versatile venue for special occasions.
  • Conveniently situated across the street from Kyle Field, it provides a fantastic backdrop for photos and is a prime location for capturing memories.

Impressive Space

  • A vast facility, spanning over 32,000 square feet, providing ample room for workouts.

Free Weight Haven

  • Over 10,000 square feet dedicated to free weights, offering 26 custom power lift racks, 9 inlaid platforms, 115 pairs of dumbbells, kettlebells, leg presses, combo pulleys, and a full line of Hammer Strength plate-loaded equipment.

Cardio Variety

  • Boasts nearly 100 pieces of cardio equipment from renowned brands such as Technogym, Woodway, and FreeMotion, including treadmills, incline trainers, skillmills, ellipticals, climbers/stepmills, spin bikes, and more.

Functional Movement Zone

  • A spacious turf area equipped with sleds, kettlebells, medicine balls, stability balls, battle ropes, plyo boxes, foam rollers, and more.

Tech-Enhanced

  • Large HD TVs are positioned throughout the room, with advanced consoles on most cardio equipment offering TV, internet, and app capabilities.

Personal and Small Group Training Suite

  • A dedicated space featuring a blend of traditional and specialized equipment for unique training experiences for personal and small group clients.

Additional Cardio Facilities

  • The second and third floors house extra cardio equipment like ellipticals, rowers, arc trainers, recumbent and spin bikes, and a functional trainer.

Personal Training Suite

  • A fully dedicated space to cater to personal training clients, equipped with premium equipment such as Technogym Kinesis, TRX suspension units, customized rack systems, Power Block dumbbells, Skillmills, InclineTrainers, kettlebells, medicine balls, and more.
  • Personal training clients can enjoy unhindered access to the Strength & Conditioning Room and its equipment during sessions with their trainers and independent workouts.
