This spring semester welcomes back a familiar face to the Rec Sports team! Ryan Keller, who over a decade ago worked for Rec Sports during his undergraduate and graduate years, has returned to Aggieland as the new assistant director of Strength & Conditioning!

In his previous role, Keller worked as the assistant director of Fitness at Texas Christian University, operating their budgets, managing their weight rooms, and overseeing their fitness programming for over ten years.

When asked about his return to Texas A&M Rec Sports, Ryan Keller said, “Texas A&M has expanded to become one of the largest universities in the country. Not only was this one of the coolest rec centers that I had previously worked with, but now it has expanded with two new rec centers with top-of-the-line strength and conditioning spaces. People might have differing opinions, but you’re now looking at one of the best strength and conditioning facilities  – combining all the spaces that we have – in the country, period.”

He continued, “Being a part of this place, that’s what I’m most excited about. The size and scope of this program – it’s almost uncharted territory in university recreation, so getting the opportunity to step back in and be part of [Texas A&M Rec Sports’] world class facilities, high-level staff, and top notch programs, I feel very proud to be back.”

In his new role at Texas A&M, Keller will be responsible for overseeing the strength and conditioning rooms at the three main Rec Sports facilities: the Student Rec Center, the Polo Road Rec Center, and the Southside Rec Center.

His regular duties will include managing maintenance within those rooms, purchasing strength and conditioning equipment, and ensuring that each facility’s strength and conditioning room is properly staffed. In addition, he will be working with other professional staff to facilitate the development of student employees and the execution of small group and personal training programs.

“I like the challenge and the changing nature of these roles, that you walk in every day and don’t know what’s going to be presented to you,” Keller said. “It’s exciting to come in and meet these students, knowing that I was once where they are and now I get to guide them.”

Beyond being a mere mentor, Keller hopes to create a lasting impact at Texas A&M through his purpose-driven job performance and the relationships he will be able to foster in College Station.

“To be challenged, to know that I will work until I can figure out a solution, and to know that I have a passion and a gift for connecting with people.” Keller said. “It’s an amazing opportunity to be selected for this position, and I look forward to making a positive impact on a program like this.”

Keller has joined two other professional staff in overseeing the Strength & Conditioning program, and we are excited to welcome Keller back to Aggieland.
