On Air With Student Affairs: Wellness Wisdom for Mental Health Awareness Month

Rec Sports and University Health Services offer advice on prioritizing well-being as a college student

This past week, the month of May has mostly just brought spring showers to College Station. But May is also recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month. In honor of the awareness month, Rec Sports’ DJ Scott, assistant director of strength and conditioning, and Anna Taggart, program director of fitness and wellness, joined On Air With Student Affairs to discuss how college students can prioritize their mental well-being. The podcast, hosted by Morgan Miles ’26, also featured Megan Culpepper from University Health Services.

The episode explored the importance of mental health awareness and offered practical advice for students. Rec Sports offers a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between physical and mental health, with offerings tailored to both. Taggart and Scott shared their own experiences and tips.

“Just moving your body in any way that feels good for you is going to improve your stress, your mental health, your sleep, the list goes on and on,” Taggart said.

So whether your storms this month are weather-related or emotional, take a moment to explore the resources available through Rec Sports and University Health Services. Your well-being is worth it.
