| General Statement of Duties
The MarComm Content Writer is responsible for drafting, revising, and editing content for various digital and printed publications to promote Rec Sports and communicate with patrons and supporters. This is a part-time position that is open to students only. This employee reports to the Marketing Manager.
Typical Responsibilities
- Assist with the development of short-form and long-form written content, including Rec Highlights, Rec Sports guide, RecLIFE Magazine, brochures, invitations, speeches, addresses, etc.
- Conduct research for topics pertinent to stories developed for the Rec Sports for contextualization, time-sensitivity, and accuracy
- Pitch and lead the production of stories for Texas A&M Rec Sports publications from ideation to publication
- Coordinate with Rec Sports student and professional staff to conduct interviews for the development of writing assignments
- Coordinate/assist Rec Sports student and professional staff with the development of multimedia content to pair with written assignments
- Other duties as needed.
Experience and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, diction and syntax.
- Investigative personality to seek out information that best supports the development of written content development.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and Google Workspace applications.
- Willingness to learn about the Department of Rec Sports, its business, and its current projects/events.
- Strong attention to detail.
Training
- Training will be provided by a Rec Sports MarComm Team Member. No certifications are required.
- Stay up to date on required state training
Environmental Conditions
- The Content Writer generally works indoors within the Student Recreation Center. However, some off-site duties may be required.
Pay Scale
- In accordance with the Department of Recreational Sports Part-time Worker Pay Scale, the MarComm Content Writer will be paid a beginning rate of $11.60/hour (Pay Scale “B”) and will be eligible for merit increases after four months of service, contingent on exemplary performance.

- Students will be able to compose questions and conduct interviews as a method of gathering information for content development.
- Students will be able to create written content that effectively communicates the spirit of Rec Sports staff, programs, events, and facilities.
- Students will demonstrate punctuality, dependability, and responsiveness; complete assigned tasks fully, correct errors that occur, and work productively with peers and full-time professionals.
