Which Rec Center Is My Perfect Fit?
Different Rec facilities cater to many uses and activities, so find the right one for you
Three centers on campus host manifold amenities and facilities, so there’s always something for everyone. But how do you find exactly what’s right for you? Whether you’re first embarking on your fitness journey or a national champion in water polo, you can find your Rec Sports home catered specifically to your needs.
First and foremost, our facilities are stationed in three convenient locations across campus.
The Student Rec Center is located on West Campus–perfect for business students, drivers with a West Campus Garage pass, or anyone living in southwest College Station.
The Southside Rec Center is located, you guessed it, on the south side of campus, near the golf course. Designed with on-campus convenience in mind, this would be the perfect spot for any student living in a dorm, especially in the Commons!
The Polo Road Rec Center is located on Polo Road (didn’t we just kill it with this naming system?), right behind the Zachary Engineering Education Complex–ideal for students looking to workout between classes, or dwellers of the northern side of Bryan-College Station.
Location isn’t always a priority, though. If you’re looking for a rec center that will perfectly match your favorite activity, we’ve got your back.
To squeeze a workout into your day–from weight lifting to cardio–you’ll find a strength and conditioning room to suit your needs at any of our three facilities. The Southside Rec Center is the newest facility, with an open floor plan and incredible views that will stun you during the workout of your dreams. Polo Road, on the other hand, is the facility with the most focus on Strength & Conditioning, and is perfect for the active student.
If you’re an adventurer, or want to get started, the Student Rec Center is for you. With a 44-foot-tall climbing tower and a myriad of Outdoor Adventures to explore, anyone can rent equipment, go on trips, or climb their hearts out.
When movement is essential to your fitness plan, Polo Road and the Southside Rec Centers will get you up and moving with large turf areas and equipment. Southside also boasts an exclusive outdoor turf area.
If a workout isn’t the move, and you’re just in the mood for some recreational fun, the Student Rec Center has pickup games running most of the day with indoor basketball, volleyball, and racquetball courts, as well as outdoor options. You can bring your friends and personal equipment, or find everything you need within the space. If you’d like a little more structure and competition, check out Intramural Sports, which is also housed in the Student Rec Center.
Swimmers and divers! The Student Rec Center is your aquatic oasis. At our flagship location, you have the opportunity to choose between an outdoor pool, indoor lap pool, instructional pool, spa, 50M pool and dive well–an amenity for anything that your water activity requires.
To try something new, sign up for Fitness & Wellness RecXercise classes online or on the app. For yoga, dance, Pilates, cycling and more, you’ll find yourself making the most of the Student Rec Center’s multipurpose rooms. Yogalates, core workouts, and body blaster sessions will bring you to the Southside Rec for classes designed to help you decompress or strengthen your mind and body.
Aside from the many activities and experiences offered, Rec Sports also can cater to students by opportunity!
Need a part-time job for the school year? The Student Rec Center is where you will want to find yourself. Employing over 1000 Aggies at any given time, positions for every different program area will have openings throughout the year for which you can apply.
For leadership opportunities, the Student Rec Center is the hub of Sport Clubs–student run, competitive, athletic organizations on campus. Since these clubs are student run, there are many opportunities to join and run for an officer position, or even serve on the executive committee.
Now that you’re interested in checking out these incredible spaces, you might be asking, ‘Which rec center has the accommodations and amenities I need?’ Not to worry!
If you bring bags, equipment, or even valuables to the gym, all three facilities have locker rooms with combination locks! You might find yourself most accommodated at the Student Rec Center, which hosts locker walls and cubbies throughout the building in addition to the locker rooms.
Drivers need somewhere to park when they workout, right? Well, if you have parking passes for the Southside or Polo Road garages, perfect! If not, the Student Rec Center is the only facility with designated 2.5 hour parking for users.
And if none of this sounds quite like you, check out the Rec Sports website for a more comprehensive view of all programs, activities, facilities, and experiences. From beginner to gym rat, athlete to yogi, outdoorsman to bookworm (some of the best study spots on campus are actually in the Rec!), there’s a home for every Aggie, and our doors–at seven facilities–are open to all.
