What’s the difference between the Southside Rec Center, the Student Rec Center, and the Polo Road Rec Center?

Texas A&M Rec Sports is proud to host one of the largest recreation programs in the nation, and with three main facilities under our purview, it’s natural to question which facility is best for you.

Student Rec Center

Our flagship facility offers a multitude of amenities, including some not found at Southside or Polo Road! The Rec’s strength and conditioning room spans over 32,000 square feet, complete with free weights, treadmills, and StairMasters! Throughout the Rec, you can also find cycling equipment, a bouldering wall, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, and volleyball courts, also indoors and outdoors. This facility is located across Welbourn Road from Kyle Field and in between West Campus Garage and Olsen Field

Rec exclusives include:

  • A 44-foot-tall climbing wall
  • Five swimming pools
  • Designated boxing room
  • Racquetball courts
  • Indoor track
  • 3 floors of recreation

Southside Rec Center

Opened in fall 2022, Southside is our newest facility under the Department of Rec Sports! Here you can find a large strength and conditioning room, indoor basketball and volleyball courts, and a multipurpose room for fitness classes upstairs! Located across the street from the Commons residence halls on Bizzell Street, this facility gives students additional access to recreational space and equipment on the south side of campus.

The Perks of Southside Rec Center:

  • Outdoor turf area (exclusive to this facility!)
  • Large window walls for an open atmosphere
  • Close proximity to Commons residence halls for easy access
  • Recessed bouldering wall

Polo Road

Located near the Zachry Engineering building on University Drive is the Polo Road Rec Center! This 28,000-square-root facility features a strength and conditioning room, indoor turf area, and a multipurpose room for group fitness classes!

The Perks of the Polo Road Rec Center:

  • Connected to Polo Road Garage for easy access
  • Close proximity to Zachry for the busy student
  • A view of University Drive for a nice urban setting
