In a playful, fictional scenario set at the rec during a sudden zombie apocalypse, readers must choose where to seek refuge, facing various fates depending on their decisions, from being cornered by zombies to surviving through clever choices like utilizing the Outdoor Adventures gear to rebuild society.

Survival of the Fittest

If the zombie apocalypse happened while you were in the Rec, where would you go?

It’s a beautiful afternoon. You’re enjoying a nice workout, or a relaxing dip in the pool. Maybe you’re in a dance class, or at the top of the climbing tower. Then, all around you, phone alerts blare. A hush falls upon the Rec. A heartbeat passes, and then two, and then… chaos. The apocalypse is here! And you were just about to hit a new PR, too.

But now, you must make a decision. Zombies have infiltrated campus and are closing in on the Rec. Where do you go? The pools, the courts, the weight room?

If you said the courts, I’m sorry to tell you that the zombies got you. There’s no protection there, what were you thinking?

If you decided to go to the Sport Clubs or Intramural Sports offices, you met the same fate. You can hide under a desk for a while, but then you’re cornered!

If you went to the Smoothie King, well, at least you got a sweet treat in your final moments.

If you went to the Strength & Conditioning room, phew! You defended yourself from the zombies with your bench press abilities, and made it out alive. But where will you go next?

If you went to the backyard, congratulations! You escaped toward Olsen Field and evaded the zombies… for now.

If you thought the natatorium would keep you safe, you were right. Until you couldn’t tread water any longer. The pools kept the zombies at bay, but they’re surprisingly patient. You soon swam for the edge and they ate your brain. Sorry.

If you were creative enough to think to go to the administrative offices, the sheer magnitude of leadership and management skills floating around up there granted you the power to control the zombies. Whether you use that power for good or evil, only time will tell. Either way, this special ability definitely changes the game, and you made it out alive. The fact that this is being written from the marketing office has nothing to do with this epic twist, I swear.

If you went to Outdoor Adventures, I can confidently report that you survived the whole apocalypse. The boats, tents, bikes, and other equipment in the rental center supplied you with everything you needed to make it through and rebuild society. We’re counting on you.
