Caylyn Perry ‘25 shines in her role maintaining the financial health of Rec Sports

Beyond the weights, climbing facilities, and fitness rooms that decorate the Student Rec Center lies a team of professional and student staff committed to the financial upkeep of the Department of Recreational Sports. Without their labors, financing state-of-the-art programs and facilities would be challenging, and among these select few lies the next student spotlight: Caylyn Perry ‘25.

Like many students that arrive at Texas A&M, the junior accounting major anxiously explored new opportunities during her first few semesters in Aggieland, at the time unaware of the possibilities awaiting her at the Department of Recreational Sports.

“I thought college was like, you go to school and you get involved in orgs and that’s how you meet people and make friends, but most of my friends have been made here,” Perry said.

As an accounting major, Perry was excited to apply her knowledge in the workforce, and in spring 2022, she began her first-ever job inside Business Services at Rec Sports.

“I’m most proud of the growth I’ve experienced here,” Perry said. “I’d never had a job before, so just growth is my biggest thing.”

In her current position with Business Services, Perry assists professional staff with various accounting work and journal entries that make the department run, but what has stuck out the most to Perry is the bonds she’s made along the way.

“My time here has really helped me grow professionally and personally; it’s really brought me out of my shell a lot,” Perry said. “Rec Sports is a great employer; I really like it here. The atmosphere! I love everybody I work with and just how friendly everyone is.”

When asked about her inspiration for her accounting work, Perry said, “I really do look up to Arranna [Bennett] a lot; she’s a big role model I have here. I kind of want to do what she does, so you could say she’s my hero.”

After her graduation from Texas A&M, Perry intends to pursue a career in industry accounting, working within a large firm and managing their books, but she’s not afraid to experiment with her own entrepreneurship.

“Ultimately I think I’d like to own my own business,” Perry said. “That’s always been a dream of mine, to kind of run my own ship”
