Sport Clubs Give Back to BTHO Hunger
KBTX Food for Families Hosts November Can Drive for Brazos Valley Food Bank
The Sport Clubs Association within Rec Sports and KBTX Food for Families are gearing up to BTHO Hunger this November with their 16th annual can food drive. Led by the Sport Clubs Executive Committee, the drive aims to collect 100,000 ounces (6250 lbs.) in cans from Nov. 1 through 30 for the Brazos Valley Food Bank.
“I believe that Sport Clubs really has a duty to give back to the community because of how much the community impacts us,” Executive Committee Treasurer Jonathan Cline ‘27 said. “We really get a lot of support. Our organizations get a lot of funding with profit shares and donations and I think it’s really important to try to give back.”
The Texas A&M Sport Clubs Association is partnering with KBTX Food for Families for the 16th annual BTHO Hunger drive, aiming to collect 100,000 ounces in canned food this November to benefit the Brazos Valley Food Bank.
Throughout the month, anyone can donate cans to the three drop-off sites, located at the Student Rec Center, the Penberthy Rec Sports Complex, Southside Rec Center, and the PEAP Building. Sport Club members and those donating on behalf of a Sport Club may use a four-letter code, which can be found along with other details on the BTHO Hunger: Texas A&M Sport Clubs Can Drive website.
“It’s a really great way to give back to the community since this donation goes directly back to Brazos County,” Sport Clubs Coordinator Kaylee Connolly said. “That’s what makes it really special, [Sport Clubs] are affecting people in their own area.”
The most needed items are canned corn, soup, cereal, canned beans, spaghetti, tuna, canned fruit, peanut butter, and dried beans. These and all of the other donations will be packed up and delivered by the Executive Committee to the KBTX Food for Families drive held on December 4.
“I think that we can have an impact on not only our student athletes and the people that we touch through this program, but the greater Texas A&M and College Station-Bryan communities as well,” Connolly said. “The emphasis here is the outreach and that give-back mindset.”
