Round Two, Reformed: Upcoming Pilates Session Builds on Summer Momentum
Fitness & Wellness hosts Free Week for Pilates Reformer next week, followed by Summer Package 2
The Pilates Reformer Specialty Class transforms every inhale into strength and every exhale into control. Package 1, which took place in June, was more than a workout. It was a combination of alignment, mobility, and community for participants. Returning again for a second session, Pilates Reformer, hosted by Fitness & Wellness, is ready to breathe life into your summer.
The program will take place Monday, July 14 through Thursday, August 7 at the Physical Education Activity Program (PEAP) building. Led by veteran instructors Kourtney Bassett and Novey Arrieta, this four week program is designed to progressively build from foundational movements to advanced exercises.
"The beautiful thing about the summer and future semesters is we're going to have more instructors on staff, so students can find the instructor that meets their needs and what they're looking for," Bassett said.
Participants will be led through a series of spinal mobility exercises and breathwork, all while incorporating full body exercises that vary in intensity on the reformer. From total beginners to seasoned athletes, this class is catered to everyone's ability, providing an essential cross training opportunity.
"I like that everyone is in a different place in their lives," Arrieta said. "We're going to have dancers, and we're going to have bodybuilders. Lots of runners come to Pilates, which is great, but I really enjoy seeing all types of people there."
Package 2 is split into two sessions — Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:45pm to 5:30pm, and Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30pm to 6:15pm. The course fee is $80 for members and $96 for non-members, but the classes will be held for free from July 7 to July 10, so you can make sure Pilates Reformer is the program for you before committing.
Registration is now open through the Fitness & Wellness page on the Rec Sports website or through the app. While this class is for everyone, everyone wants a spot, so grab yours now!
Additionally, Pilates Reformer Specialty Classes will be undergoing expansions and updates in the upcoming year. Be on the lookout for all-new private instruction opportunities, drop-in sessions, and an official Pilates studio at the Student Rec Center.
