Your Ultimate Rec Sports Bucket List

Here’s everything you need to try before graduation

Texas A&M Rec Sports offers a world of opportunities to stay active, connect with others, and make invaluable memories. But, we know these few years of college pass so quickly. Before you turn your Aggie Ring at graduation, here’s an ultimate guide to make the most of your time with Rec Sports. How many can you check off this semester?

1. Crush a Group RecXercise Class

From Pilates to kickboxing, RecXercise classes are a must-try. These high-energy sessions are perfect for getting that heart rate up and working fun into your fitness routine. With nearly 30 different classes throughout the week, the only bummer about adding Group RecXercise classes into your schedule is that you won’t have time to try them all!

2. Compete in an Intramural Sports Game

Find the Play Pass that works for you and join an intramural team this semester. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just looking for fun, intramural sports like flag football, basketball, or even real-life battleship (yep, that’s a real thing!) guarantee a great time. Bonus points if you win the coveted IM championship T-Shirt! Register today to secure your spot in popular leagues, and choose from a single-game, tournament, or unlimited Play Pass.

3. Build Strength and Confidence in the Weight Room

Rec Sports is home to three on-campus strength & conditioning facilities. Take advantage of the well-equipped weight rooms, which are free to access with your student ID, or level up with personal training sessions. Staff members are available to provide guidance on working out safely and effectively.

4. Dive into Aquatics

Hit the 50-meter or indoor lap pool for a cardio workout this semester. It’s a great way to build strength, increase speed, or set a new personal record. If you enjoy working out, make it a point to add swimming to the routine. It’s a full-body workout that engages all of your muscle groups, boosts heart health, and provides a great opportunity for cross-training. Check out the swim schedule on the Aquatics website.

5. Be the First to Try Aggie Performance

For the first time ever, Rec Sports Strength & Conditioning is hosting Aggie Performance, a small group training session designed to increase athletic performance. Be one of the first Aggies to develop your speed, agility, and power with turf movements, cardio, resistance training, and mental toughness. Register online and don’t miss this unique opportunity!

6. Conquer the Climbing Wall

Outdoor Adventures’ indoor climbing facility is calling your name! First-timers and experienced climbers alike are invited to scale the wall–a thrill you need to experience before you graduate. Try a free one-time climb or take a Belay Orientation class to learn the ropes (literally). Try as many routes as you can before construction begins on the tower this semester. That’s right, we’re getting a brand new rock wall. Stay tuned for more updates!

7. Find a Job you Love

If you’re looking for a meaningful job on-campus, apply online to work for Rec Sports. There are tons of opportunities with different program areas to gain valuable experience while having a blast with coworkers. From lifeguarding with aquatics to leading personal training sessions with Strength & Conditioning, Rec Sports jobs help students develop crucial skills like communication, leadership, and risk management!

8. Try a New Outdoor Adventure

From weekend hiking trips to canoeing on local lakes, Rec Sports’ Outdoor Adventures program offers unique ways to connect with nature across Texas. Rent camping gear for an affordable weekend getaway, or sign up for a Rec Sports trip to explore stunning state parks. This semester, Outdoor Adventure is heading to the Brazos River, Inks Lake, and Guadalupe National Park for weekend and extended trips. There are also plenty of other scenic locations for day trips and activities, including paddling, biking, and rock climbing.

9. Attend a Rec Sports Event

If you got to join us for Rec-A-Palooza or the Rec Round-Up this year, congratulations–you’ve already checked off one bucket list item! But there are so many more opportunities to engage with Rec Sports and your fellow Aggies! Come cheer on any of the 39 sport clubs during one of their competitions–the energy and camaraderie of Rec Sports events are something every Aggie should experience before graduating. Check the online schedule and bring your 12th Man spirit!

10. Take a Lap Around the New-and-Improved Indoor Track

Over winter break, Rec Sports installed a completely new indoor track on the third floor of the Student Rec Center, featuring never-before-seen colored lanes. Jog in style on maroon and gray Mondo Super X track to experience the smoother, more durable surface. If you’ve never been upstairs in the Rec center, now is the perfect time!

There you have it, Ags–the ultimate Rec Sports bucket list. No matter your interests, there’s something here for every Aggie to enjoy. Don’t let graduation sneak up on you without making the most of these incredible opportunities!
