Welcome to Intramural Sports!

Every year more than 12,000 students participate in our intramural program and this could be your year! Rec Sports offers dozens of different intramural activities. It doesn’t matter if you’re a star athlete or if you just want to get some friends together for fun; intramural sports has a division of play for you!

Online Registration, Schedules and Results

When Are Intramural Sports Played?

Intramural sports are typically played Sundays through Thursdays, and the time frame is usually 5:45pm to midnight. Sunday play typically starts earlier in the afternoon for most sports.

Looking For a Team?

Intramural sports registration occurs through team registration. If you don’t have a team, don’t worry; there is still an opportunity to play. Simply go to the Texas A&M IMLeagues page. There you will be able to go a certain sport and division and sign up as a free agent. The intramural sports department doesn’t create teams, but our teams are constantly looking for additional players.

Intramural Sports Eligibility

All Texas A&M students, faculty, staff, and spouses of each category who have purchased a Rec Sports membership for the semester are eligible to participate in the intramural program. Those who qualify for a continuing student membership for the semester are also eligible. Complete eligibility guidelines are outlined in our Policies and Procedures section under the Rules tab.

Intramural games may occasionally be canceled due to inclement weather. If this happens, participants may find out the status of games via three methods:

All three are updated when weather is in the area. Typically, a decision about the status of games for the evening is made at 3:00pm.

Registration

The registration process for intramural sports is conducted completely online. Payment will only be accepted with a credit card.  If you are unable to pay by credit card, you will need to come to the intramural office prior to the online registration period to pay by cash to be able to sign up online.

Fall Intramural Information

During summer sessions, teams will play each and every day for the sport they sign up for. For example, if you register for basketball during session 1, your team will have a game every Tuesday and Thursday to start the season. Once playoffs begin, you will continue to play every Tuesday and Thursday until your team is eliminated.

Description: Played at the Penberthy Rec Sports Complex on both natural and artificial turf, this sport is offered for Men’s, Women’s, Co-ed, Corps and Fraternity leagues. Each team is comprised of 7 players on the field (co-ed teams are comprised of 8). This is flag football governed by the NIRSA Flag and Touch Football Rules with Texas A&M modifications and is a minimal contact sport. PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE SHORTS WITHOUT POCKETS TO PLAY FLAG FOOTBALL.

Description: Played on the indoor basketball courts at the Student Recreation Center, this sport is offered for Men’s, Women’s and Co-ed leagues. Each team is comprised of 5 players and is played under NFHS rules with a few A&M modifications for timing. PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT IS NOT OUR FULL BASKETBALL LEAGUE AND IS LIMITED TO ONLY 88 TEAMS.

Description: Played at the Penberthy Rec Sports Complex, this league will be offered in an open team format. Teams will be made up of any number of males and females. Teams consist of 7 players (co-ed teams may not have more than 4 of one gender on the field). This sport is self-officiated under the supervision of an intramural supervisor. PLEASE NOTE: ALL ULTIMATE GAMES WILL BE PLAYED ON SUNDAYS.

Description: Played at the Penberthy Rec Sports Complex on natural grass turf, this sport is offered for Corps, Fraternity and Co-ed leagues only during the fall. Each team is comprised of 10 players (may use additional hitter to bat 11 players). Co-ed teams are comprised of 5 players of each gender (may use two additional hitters to bat 12 players). Gloves are also available for checkout.

Description:

This event will be played at The Campus Course at Texas A&M. Each 2-person team will play a scramble format and will tee off with another twosome. Tee times will begin at 2:30pm on Wednesday and the event is open to all eligible intramural participants. PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO PLAY BEGINNING AT 2:30PM.

Description:

This one-day event (depending on number of entries) will be free of charge and offered in an open format. The twosome can be all male, all female, or both. Each team will be guaranteed two games. All games will be played at the Penberthy Rec Sports Complex.

Description:

Played at the Penberthy Rec Sports Complex, this sport is offered in an open format. Teams consist of 7 players with any make-up of males/females on the team. This is a non-contact sport that has components of ultimate, soccer, football and conditioning. Each player is responsible to uphold the “Spirit of the Game.”

Description:

This intramural sport is played in half of the 50M pool of the Student Recreation Center Natatorium and will feature teams that can be made up of any combination of male and female players. All teams will be in the same league regardless of the number of each gender. Teams will consist of no more and no less than 4 players. All participants in this sport should be able to swim and must wear proper pool attire. PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE TO PLAY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHTS FOR TWO WEEKS.

IM Leagues

Texas A&M Intramural Sports team schedules, registration and results are handled by a third party software called IMLeagues.com.

All intramural participants must be members of Rec Sports and meet the eligibility requirements for intramural sports. In order to adhere to this policy, all participants must log in through the RecConnect website in order to verify eligibility for intramural sports. You must have your Net ID and password in order to log into the site.

Intramural Sports Rules

Below is some important information pertaining to Intramural Sports policies and procedures. Participants should consult the full, detailed handbook for more thorough answers to questions.

Who is eligible to play Intramural Sports?

Any Texas A&M student, faculty, staff, or spouse of one of those three categories are eligible to play intramural sports as long as they have paid the Rec Sports fee for that semester. Most students are automatically eligible as long as they are enrolled in enough hours to have fees automatically charged to their account. No one outside of the above categories is eligible for Texas A&M intramural participation. Guest passes and Blinn College students do not qualify to play in our program.

How many teams can I play on?

All eligible participants are allowed to play on one single gender and one co-ed team per sport. Please note that all specialty divisions (i.e. Corps of Cadets and fraternity) count as the single-gender team.

Do I need an ID to play?

Yes! All intramural participants must show a form of photo ID prior to each and every game. The identification must be a government issued ID. A driver’s license or student ID card are the most used and accepted forms of ID.

Can I wear jewelry when I play?

Some sport rules specifically outlaw jewelry for the game; therefore, intramural sports has decided to not allow jewelry in any intramural contest. All players are required to remove jewelry prior to the game starting. This includes Aggie rings. Please note that recreational facilities are possible theft areas. Please secure your belongings in lockers or leave them at home. Intramural sports is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Will games be played tonight because of weather?

Intramural games may occasionally be canceled due to inclement weather. If this happens, participants may find out the status of games via three methods:

Can we reschedule a game?

Yes! If a spot is available, we will allow teams to reschedule their assigned game. Team captains are encouraged to act early if they cannot make a game. Reschedule spots are first come, first served. All reschedules must be completed by 3pm the day of the game. For Sunday contests, the reschedule must be completed by 3pm Friday! NOTE: The time of your game is official in IMLEAGUES. Unless your schedule is changed online, the reschedule is not complete. Do not trust the word of the opposing team.

We can’t reschedule our game; what happens?

Teams are expected to show up to their assigned game times. If a team cannot make a game time, the intramural office can help you possibly reschedule your game. If a game cannot be rescheduled, teams have the choice of defaulting or forfeiting the game. If you call the intramural office prior to 3:00pm the day of your game, we will allow you to DEFAULT your game, meaning you will receive the loss, but you will not be charged a fee. If you do not call the office and choose to not show up to your game, your team will be charged with a forfeit. This means you will receive a loss and could possibly be charged a fine for forfeiting the game.

How are playoff times decided?

Once a team advances to playoffs, it is not certain that you will play on the same day and time as your regular season games are scheduled. All teams are entered into one bracket for the playoffs, so a team that plays on Mondays at 7:45 may be playing a team that plays on Thursdays at 9:45. Therefore, it’s impossible to have the games at the same time for every team.

When do rosters freeze?

Throughout the regular season of a sport, team captains may add and accept players on their team at any time. All players must be on the online roster prior to the game they want to play in. At 3:00pm on the day playoffs begin for the sport your team is playing is when rosters will be frozen. Anyone planning to participate on your team for any game after that time must be on your roster.

Officiating

Intramural Sports officials make $9.00/hour!

Texas A&M Intramural Sports hires over 200 students each year to fill positions as referees and umpires for our team sports. Officials are needed for almost all intramural team sports including flag football, volleyball, soccer, basketball and softball. Training sessions are held in the weeks prior to the beginning of each respective season.

Job Details

  • Intramural officials are the entry level position available in Intramural Sports. All intramural officials must be a student (Blinn College students are eligible to work).
  • Officials work approximately 6-12 hours a week; however, some work more or less. Your schedule depends on your availability, and Intramural Sports understands that you are a student FIRST!
  • Intramural sports officials may be scheduled Sundays through Thursdays from 5:30pm to midnight. Sometimes Sunday starts as early at 3:30pm and is our most demanding day for staff and requires some availability. While there are no intramural events scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays, intramural officials can also earn extra cash by being available for special events on those days.
  • Being an intramural official is seasonal and officials are only required while games are being played. Intramural sports are not played over semester breaks or when school is not in session.
  • Hourly wage rate begins at $9.00/hour and officials are eligible for merit increases in pay after 6 months from initial hire and every semester afterwards.
  • New intramural officials are not required to know the rules of the sport as those are taught during the training session; however, a basic understanding of the sport is preferred and will assist in getting hired.
  • Once hired, intramural officials are required to attend 8-10 hours of training that occur over two weeks before the season starts. This training is paid and must be attended in order to continue working.
  • Key qualities of desired staff include a willingness to learn, positive attitude, hustle, ability to accept feedback, and a willingness to improve through the season.
