Top 10 Things To Do At The Rec on a Low-Energy Day
Here are ways students can relax at the Rec

Not every day is a “do-all, be-all” kind of a day. Sometimes you’re running on three cups of coffee, five hours of sleep and motivation that just doesn’t knock on your door. The Student Rec Center has plenty of ways to stay active without diving into an intense workout. Here are a few options for your lower-energy days.

Tan on the Terrace
The terrace on the second floor of the Student Rec Center is filled with comfortable armchairs and lounge chairs where students can take in the sun, chill in the breeze and let the warmth relax their bodies. If the summer heat gets much, students can retreat back into the Rec.
With a barbecue pit available, students also have the opportunity to rent out the terrace space and host a barbecue night.

Ordering a shake from Shake Smart on a hot summer day
Grab a shake from Shake Smart
From classic shakes like chocolate and vanilla to exotic flavors like carrot cake and pink cadillac, Shake Smart offers a sweet treat that will help boost your energy and your spirits on your low-energy day.

Participants meditating during a soundoff yoga class
Drop in for a yoga class or a pilates class
If the dumbbells in the weight room seem a little heavier than usual, drop in for Rec Yoga or a Pilates Reformer class. Breathe into deep core movements and find your zen in a particular pose or movement.

Day Spa
Relax at our Day Spa pools
Maintained at 102-104 degrees Fahrenheit, the Rec’s Day Spa can hold up to 10 people. Grab your friends or yourself and let the warm water melt your worries and relax your body.
Study in some of the underrated spots at the Student Rec Center
The Rec is more than just a fitness center. It is a multifaceted facility with spaces where students can finally crack open the book that has been sitting on their reading list, work on homework or even pick up a new skill. The seating area across from Shake Smart, the quiet corridors on the third floor, the terrace and the study nook near Room 2229 are just a few of the places where students can settle in and get some work done at the Rec.

Dry Sauna
Steam in the dry sauna
One of the newest additions to the Student Rec Center, the dry sauna offers students a place to relax and unwind. Dry saunas can release tight muscles, flush out toxins through sweat and promote stress relief. On days when your body is lethargic and your mind is foggy, 15 minutes in the dry sauna may provide relief.

Get your steps in on our cardio section
The second floor of the Rec is lined with treadmills, bikes and ellipticals where students can listen to music, catch up on a podcast and work toward their 10,000 steps without braving the Texas heat.

Planning her next adventure
Rent out books and maps and plan your next adventure
The Rental Center not only offers camping gear but books and maps as well. Go down to the Rental Center, plan your journey and look out for the gear you might need. On a day when your energy returns to you, venture into the wilderness and have the time of your life.

Reserve a multipurpose room and make it your own
Students can reserve one of the Rec’s multipurpose rooms on a walk-in basis for an hour or two. For that time, the space is yours — a quiet room where you can dance like nobody’s watching, lie on the floor and contemplate life or gather a few friends for your own impromptu fitness class.
Roll out your muscles with a foam roller
Grab a foam roller from the Rec’s weight room and give yourself a deep tissue massage. Roll out the tension, ease into a light stretching routine and relax into your breath, letting your body reconnect with the energy of the day.
