One Room, One Semester: How Far a Multipurpose Room Can Go
The varied uses of Multipurpose Room 2225 during spring 2026 semester

On a Friday night, Room 2225 might be filled with Aggies cheering on a baseball game. By Saturday morning, the same space may host a student organization practicing choreography. By Sunday, it is rearranged again, this time into banquet seating for a campus event. In one semester, a single room becomes just about everything.
Room 2225 is approximately 2,000 square feet and shares a small outdoor patio with Multipurpose Room 2221 that overlooks Blue Bell Park. The space is primarily used for Group RecXercise classes – including hip-hop, jazz and contemporary dance — but that is just a slice of what the room can host.
“We take the word ‘multipurpose’ and really stretch it,” said Alyssa Moncrief-Cobb, assistant director of operations, reservations, and events. “It’s got the mirrors and is obviously a space that is used for fitness classes. It has a projector in the space and a microphone, so you can stream the baseball game, or you can do presentations.”
Many student organizations have used the room, including the hip-hop dance team Fade To Black, the Texas A&M Philippine Student Association and the martial arts club Kendo Kyokai. The Association of Former Students and the 12th Man Association have reserved it for events and for baseball watch parties. Individual students can also reserve the space for practice or personal use. In the course of the semester, the room has been set up with cocktail tables and seating for both classroom and lecture settings. It has also been set up as a food and buffet room to support banquets in Room 2229. No matter what the reservation requires, the room will be set up to try to fit it.

“When it comes to events, we will set up equipment based on the group’s needs,” Moncrief-Cobb said. “Baseball weekends are insane, so we might have an event for every single game of that series. They’re having an event late Friday night, our staff will go back and flip the room to make it look like what the next group wants, and then flip it again for Sunday’s event.”
On March 28, 2026, the Texas Science and Engineering Fair, or TXSEF, used Room 2225 for judge training and collaboration. For this event, Room 2225 was arranged in a banquet style with 10 tables seating 10 guests each.
“We have used this space in previous years, and the reservation process has always been smooth,” said Taylor Young, program specialist. “[Moncrief-Cobb] consistently ensures her team understands our needs and timeline. We will be hosting TXSEF 2027 at the REC again and plan to use Room 2225 for judges in the future as well.”
As the spring semester comes to a close, the Women’s Rugby Sport Club will be using the space for the second year in a row.
“We will be hosting our end-of-year banquet for our sport clubs,” President of Women’s Rugby Sport Club Katelijne Groeneweg said. “It’s beneficial because it’s on campus, which makes it easy to get to and makes it centrally located. It’s also cheap and really easy to go online and reserve.”
From banquets to baseball tailgates to dance classes, the possibilities are extensive for what the multipurpose rooms can accomplish. When a reservation request is submitted, the answer is rarely no.
“One thing that I feel is important is that those rooms really can accommodate almost anything,” Moncrief-Cobb said. “We can scale it to fit anyone’s needs. We always try really hard to find a ‘yes’ with a request, and for the most part, we’re able to. I love it when we get requests that are just a little bit different than most.”
