NOW HIRING: MarComm Photographer I

General Statement of Duties

• • The MarComm Photographer I is responsible for capturing, editing, and organizing high-quality images that showcase Rec Sports programs, events, facilities, and community. This part-time, student-only position ensures comprehensive photography coverage for Rec Sports needs, including content during normal hours of operation and at events outside regular hours, such as weekends and evenings.

Typical Responsibilities

• • Take photos at a variety of Rec Sports events and activities, including: A. Weekend sport club events B. Evening intramural games C. Early morning fitness and specialty classes D. General Rec Sports events (e.g., Rec-A-Palooza, student banquets, New Student Conferences) E. Daily operations within Rec Sports facilities to capture candid and promotional content.
  • Edit photos for quality and consistency, ensuring all images meet Rec Sports brand standards.
  • Save and organize photos in the Rec Sports Google Drive and upload them to the official Rec Sports Flickr account.
  • Provide photography support for additional Rec Sports needs, including spontaneous assignments, promotional shoots, and special requests from department staff.

Experience and Abilities

• • Experience with digital photography, including composition, lighting, and action shots.
  • Familiarity with DSLR cameras, photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop), and digital asset management.
  • Ability to maintain an organized photo archive in Google Drive and ensure timely uploads to Flickr.
  • Strong eye for photo quality, including color correction, cropping, and consistency.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to identify photographic opportunities that enhance Rec Sports marketing materials and communications.
  • Capable of understanding and executing photo briefs and providing regular updates to the MarComm team.

Training

• • Training will be provided by a Rec Sports MarComm Team Member. No certifications are required.
  • Stay current with all required state training

Environmental Conditions

• • The Photographer primarily will have photography sessions at Rec Sports facilities and event locations, both indoors and outdoors, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Pay Scale

• • In accordance with the Department of Recreational Sports Part-time Worker Pay Scale, the MarComm Photographer I will be paid a beginning rate of $11/hour (Pay Scale “A”) and will be eligible for merit increases after four months of service, contingent on exemplary performance.

Learning Outcomes:

• • Students will enhance their technical photography skills by capturing a variety of Rec Sports events and activities.
  • Students will gain experience in photo editing and maintaining a well-organized digital photo archive.
  • Students will demonstrate punctuality, dependability, and responsiveness while completing tasks accurately and collaborating effectively with peers and professionals.
  • Students will develop the ability to adjust to diverse photographic environments and meet the dynamic needs of the department.

• • The MarComm Photographer I position offers a flexible schedule that works around class schedules. Weekly workload may vary from 10 – 15 hours. Photographers are required to work all major events hosted by Rec Sports including Rec-A-Palooza, some weekends, holidays, and breaks.
