Job Description
General Statement of Duties
-
- Provide administrative, analytical, and project support to the Assessment & Data area within the Department of Recreational Sports. Student Assistants assist with assessment projects, data management, reporting, research, technology initiatives, and departmental operations while developing professional skills in analytics, communication, and organizational effectiveness.
Typical Responsibilities
-
- Assist with data collection, cleaning, validation, and organization for departmental assessment projects.
- Maintain databases, spreadsheets, documentation, and digital records.
- Support the development and maintenance of Power BI dashboards, reports, and data visualizations.
- Assist with survey administration, data entry, and preparation of assessment reports.
- Conduct basic quantitative and qualitative analyses under professional staff supervision.
- Prepare charts, presentations, executive summaries, and other communication materials.
- Organize and maintain SharePoint sites, Microsoft Teams resources, and departmental files.
- Assist with office administration including document preparation, scanning, filing, scheduling, meeting support, and project tracking.
- Support technology initiatives using Microsoft 365, Power Platform, and other departmental software.
- Assist with inventory management, equipment tracking, and operational projects as assigned.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality when working with institutional, departmental, and student information.
- Complete assigned projects accurately and within established deadlines.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental initiatives.
Experience and Abilities
-
- Successful Student Assistants demonstrate professionalism, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Previous experience in assessment, analytics, communications, research, or technology is preferred but not required.
- Students should possess:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications or willingness to learn new technologies.
- Interest in data analytics, research, project management, business intelligence, communications, or organizational improvement.
- Must be a currently enrolled Texas A&M University student in good academic standing.
Training
-
- Complete all required departmental and university training.
- Complete Assessment & Data Office onboarding and project-specific training.
- Participate in ongoing professional development related to analytics, technology, communication, and project management.
- Additional software training (Power BI, SharePoint, Microsoft Power Platform, Qualtrics, etc.) will be provided as appropriate.
Environmental Conditions
-
- Primarily office-based environment.
- Frequent computer use, including typing and viewing computer monitors.
- Occasional travel between departmental facilities to support projects.
- Occasional lifting, moving, or organizing equipment, records, or inventory items.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for departmental events or special projects.
Pay Scale
-
- In accordance with departmental policy, Student Assistant I, Assessment & Data will start in Pay Scale A at a rate of $11.00/hour and is eligible for a merit raise after four months of service.

Work Hours/Anticipated Schedule

- The Assessment & Data Student Associate position offers a flexible work schedule designed to accommodate students’ academic commitments. Student Associates typically work 10–20 hours per week during the academic semester, based on departmental needs and student availability. Student Associates are expected to maintain consistent weekly work schedules and may occasionally be asked to support departmental meetings, special events, trainings, or project deadlines outside of their regular schedule. A minimum of 10 hours of weekly availability is required, with additional availability preferred during peak project periods.
