What is the YCC?

There has been a demand from the local community for kids to have a place to enjoy the dynamic sport of rock climbing. Rec Sports has heard your call and is happy to offer our Youth Climber's Club (YCC) for kids ages 8 - 18.

For a small monthly fee, we will allow a parent and child team to come in and use the Indoor Climbing Facility on a limited basis. Parents will be instructed on how to safely belay their child. Kids ages 14 and up will be allowed to belay for one another after receiving belay training. All gear rental is included in the price and if you have an extra child, or if the parent wants to climb, we can add that on.

Come get on the wall and spend some quality time with your child doing something they will love. (In case you didn't know, kids LOVE rock climbing!)

When does the YCC meet?

  • Tuesdays 5pm - 10pm
  • Saturdays & Sundays 1pm - 6pm

Where is it held?

The YCC will meet at the Indoor Climbing Facility (ICF) inside the Student Recreation Center at Texas A&M University. Please visit the interactive map of the Texas A&M campus for details on where the Student Recreation Center and nearby parking are located.

How much does it cost?

  • Monthly with Equipment: $80/month
  • Climbing Parent Adds: $20/month
  • Additional Child with Equipment: $64/month

How do I sign my child up?

Registration is ongoing and can be completed by calling 979.845.4511 or 979.862.1999.

FAQ's

  • Is climbing dangerous?
Our top priority is the safety of your children. Rock climbing can be dangerous. The thrill of climbing at height is part of what makes the sport enthralling for new climbers. However, our certified staff instructors and the industry professionals who run our program have worked hard to manage the risks of climbing to a point where it can be enjoyed in the recreational setting. A waiver is required for participation.

  • What do equipment fees cover?
The equipment fees will cover shoes, harness and chalk for kids, and belay device for the belaying parent or youth partner.

  • How will I identify myself as a member of the YCC?
Club members will be given an ID card to display during their visit. This ID card will be a specific color that will change from month to month. ID cards will be used for building access and check-in. Registration will be handled monthly by ICF staff using the CSI program registration function.
