Outdoor Adventures & Rock Climbing

“Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.” – John Muir

Outdoor Adventures at Texas A&M University provides the Texas A&M and B/CS community with access to the outdoors. We offer a wide range of trips and classes, a large selection of outdoor gear to rent, an indoor rock climbing facility, and other resources to get you in touch with the world around you.

Registration & General Information

Registration

Participants may register by phone, mail, fax or by stopping by Outdoor Adventures (located adjacent to the Penberthy Rec Sports Complex) in person. Activities have enrollment limits and fill up quickly.

Payment

Outdoor Adventures accepts cash, personal checks, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Two price rates are offered: currently-enrolled students and Rec Sports members pay a reduced rate, while non-members and the general public pay the regular rate.

Required Paperwork

Registration will not be accepted unless the following items are completed and turned in at the time of registration:

Extended Trips

Payment plans are available for the larger expeditions. Participants registering for an extended trip (longer than a weekend) have the option of paying a down payment at the time of registration with the remaining balance due by the close of registration date.

Trip Information Sheets

Upon registering you will receive a detailed trip information sheet that includes pre-trip orientation meeting schedule, refund and cancellation information, location descriptions, a basic gear list and general information.

Trip Policies

  • Trips are open on a first-come, first-served basis
  • Depending on the trip, participation is usually limited to 5 – 10 participants
  • Minimum numbers will vary depending upon the trip (minimum number of participants is usually required for a trip or activity to “make”)

Trip Skill and Physical Exertion Levels

The majority of Outdoor Adventures activities are offered to beginning-level participants with no prior experience in the activity. If an activity requires prior experience and/or instruction and mastery of basic skills in order to participate, this information will be included in the specific activity description.

All Outdoor Adventures activities require a minimum level of physical exertion and fitness. Those activities requiring a higher degree of physical exertion and fitness and/or taking place in remote areas over an extended period of time will be detailed in the specific activity description.

Trip Guides

Outdoor Adventures staff members come from all walks of life and have traveled locally, regionally, nationally as well as internationally. They have a genuine love for the outdoors, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, varied outdoor experiences, the ability to work with diverse groups of people, and a dedication to continued improvement of outdoor skills. Our trip guides are committed to making every outdoor adventure the best experience possible for each participant.

Custom Adventures

Outdoor Adventures has created custom-designed programs and private programs for many special events. You can rent the climbing wall for a birthday party or a welcome event. You can reserve a private clinic for you and your friends to learn more climbing techniques. Or your student organization or class can have Outdoor Adventures plan, organize and lead your next leadership retreat—we’ll even buy the food—for your Custom Adventure.
