About Group RecXercise

Drop-in fitness classes. Purchase an individual class pass or unlimited pass at Member Services.

  • Individual Class Pass: $3. Good for admission to one class.
  • Unlimited Group RecXercise Pass: $70 Fall/Spring, $30 one summer session, or $50 entire summer.
    Good for any class for the entire semester. $10 off during first week of classes (spring and fall only)!

Aqua Bootcamp @ SRC Instruction Pool

This 45 minute non-impact environment will help you gain cardiovascular fitness and strength in shallow water (4 ft. deep) using tubing, hand buoys and noodles for added resistance. Non-swimmers welcome. Lifeguard on duty.

Specialty Classes

Description: Have you ever wanted to try yoga? The goal of this class is to introduce the fundamentals of yoga in a relaxed environment. While educational and fitness oriented, you can expect a stress-reducing practice that leaves you feeling renewed and revitalized. Mats are provided; bring personal mats at your own preference. Class meets once per week. No experience required.

Class Meets: Mon, 5:30pm – 6:30pm

Cost: $36 Rec members; $60 non-members

Description: Dance in China is a highly varied art form, consisting of many modern and traditional dance genres. The dances cover a wide range, from folk dances to performances in opera and ballet, and may be used in public celebrations, rituals and ceremonies. Our instructor received her degree from Beijing in Chinese Dance and is excited to share her knowledge with you. No experience required.

Class Meets: Mon, 6:45pm – 7:45pm

Description: This class is designed for the beginner Hip Hop dancer who would like to advance their ability. Every skill will be broken down into basic steps, body movements, and choreography for a well-rounded class! You will learn something new, have fun, and get a great workout.

Description: An intermediate study of classical ballet, focusing on strength, body alignment, and flexibility through a combination of barre and center work. Previous experience is strongly encouraged. Class meets twice per week.

Description: Pilates Pro includes exercises with props such as resistance bands, Pilates rings, Pilates ball, and much more, that will be used for full-body toning. Class held once per week.

Description: Get fit, tone, and have fun at the barre with traditional muscle-sculpting barre choreography and exhilarating cardio burst, all while moving to upbeat energizing music.

Description: Advance your yoga practice with our most experienced, 200-hour yoga instructor. Practice will draw from multiple styles including Hatha, Iyengar, and Ashatanga. Inversion work and yoga wall included. Previous yoga experience is strongly recommended.

Description: Inspired by the high energy music from Indian films, BollyFit is a Bollywood dance fitness class that will spice up your workout routine! You will learn technique and choreography that incorporate rhythmic, full body movement designed to help you tone and build endurance. No dance experience required!

Description: Next Level Hip Hop is for the dancer who wants to continue expanding their horizons. The class is based on modern urban movements influenced by all genres while establishing and building upon fundamental dance moves such as popping and locking. Our instructor has lots of dance experience in various performance groups that he can’t wait to share with you. Previous experience is encouraged.

Description: Let us show you the basic mat Pilates exercises that will enhance your core strength and give you long, lean muscles. Great for participants of all ages and levels.

Description: This class is a beginning-level study of classical ballet. Class will focus on the basics of strength, body alignment, flexibility, and stage presence through performance of both barre and center combination work. Class meets twice per week.

Description: This beginner belly dance class will teach graceful arm and hand movements, undulations, isolations, and hip rotations, with a concentration on abdominal strength.

Description: This intermediate belly dance class will continue to build upon the skills learned in beginner belly dance. Students will continue to explore previous belly dance technique and stage presence.

Description: Learn how to impress the crowd when you go out dancing! Latin Mix will introduce the basic steps for Bachata, Merengue, Salsa, and more. It is strongly recommended to sign up with a partner!

Description: PiYo combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga. We crank up the speed to deliver a true fat-burning, low-impact workout that leaves your body looking long, lean, and incredibly defined.

Description: This class is designed for the beginning country western dancer. You will learn how to lead and follow a partner, perform basic turns, and improve overall technique. It is strongly recommended to sign up with a partner!

Description: This self-defense class is taught by a certified Smartsafe instructor. Women Warriors is perfect for students and staff looking to reduce uneasy feelings and become more confident in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

BootCamp

BootCamp is designed to take your fitness to the next level! Class will meet three days per week. Two days per week will be held outdoors with activities such as running, power-walking, plyometrics and cardiovascular drills, while the third day will be held inside and will be dedicated to resistance training.

Boxing BootCamp (NEW)

Are you ready to unleash your inner athlete?! ALL NEW to TAMU Rec Sports! Two nationally-certified personal trainers and group fitness instructors present an authentic boxing program that includes training on the heavy bag, speed bag, and Boxmaster, as well as full-body conditioning exercises. This workout will help build strength in your arms, legs, back, and core, and help to improve your cardiovascular endurance and self-confidence! This progressive program is suited for all fitness levels.

Fitness Outreach Services

A nationally certified group exercise instructor or personal trainer will come to your residence hall, organizational meeting or department for a private class, special event or educational lecture.

  • *You may provide your own space for the event or request a Rec Sports Group Exercise Room. Please indicate your preferred location inside the Rec (ex. Archery Room). Rental of the room and availability should be confirmed by Tawyna Moehlman at tmoehlman@rec.tamu.edu or 979.862.1322
  • *We will do our best to schedule the requested instructor, but cannot guarantee.
  • • This form must be submitted at least 2 weeks before the requested date. • Yoga/Pilates Classes: Mats will not be provided. • Music system must be available at your facility. • Pricing for Services: $50.00 per session (additional instructor $25.00). • Private classes at the Rec require a fee for room rental.
  • Form of Payment: (needed at least 3 days prior to event) Visa: MasterCard: Check IDT#:____________ SOFC:____________ • IDT (Interdepartmental Transfers) payments must be paid to Accounting, Tawyna Moehlman (979-862-1322). • Other payments can be made inside the Rec at Member Services (979-845-0526). • Make checks payable to TAMU.
