Penberthy Rec Sports Complex Renovation

The newly renovated Penberthy Rec Sports Complex is the department’s outdoor field facility. Located at the corner of Tom Chandler Dr. and Penberthy Blvd., this complex has artificial turf and natural grass playing areas dedicated to drop-in recreation, intramural sports, and sport clubs.

The Penberthy Rec Sports Complex is currently CLOSED; it will reopen the first day of summer classes.

Summer 2012 Hours*

Effective Tuesday, May 29 - Monday, August 6

  • Sunday - Thursday: 6pm - 10pm
  • Friday - Saturday: 4pm - 8pm

*Facility hours are subject to change.

During nights of intramural play (Sunday through Thursday), fields will be available until intramural games end each evening.

The complex will be closed on home football game days, between semesters, and on university holidays. Please check this page for additional information during those times.

Complex Features

  • 4 artificial turf playing areas; these fields can be set up for soccer, ultimate, rugby, men’s or women’s lacrosse, and intramural flag football/soccer
  • 5 natural grass playing fields
  • 3 softball fields
  •  a central building with outdoor pavilion (with seating available for approximately 200), meeting room (seating for approximately 60), restrooms with shower/changing areas, and control room
  • a new parking area, 100m is located adjacent to the fields, along with existing parking at Reed Arena and the Mitchell Tennis Center

The complex will be available on a regular basis for students and Rec members to stop by and recreate (see hours below).  A variety of sports equipment, including footballs, soccer balls, softball bats and gloves, and flying discs will be available for participants to check out.

Rules

  • Fields may only be used when supervised by Rec Sports staff. If gates are locked, the complex is closed; unauthorized access may be considered trespassing.
  • All participants should be prepared to present current, valid picture identification.
  • The following are not allowed in the complex:
    • Pets
    • Alcoholic Beverages
    • Vehicles
    • Tobacco Products
    • Glass Containers
    • Bicycles
    • Skateboarding
    • Metal Cleats
  • Food items, including sunflower seeds and gum, are not allowed on artificial turf playing areas.
  • Bicycles may not be locked to fences or poles; please utilize bike racks.
  • Equipment may not be moved without permission of Rec Sports staff.
  • Serving or cooking of food is only allowed with advance written permission of Rec Sports.
  • Rec Sports staff have the authority to remove patrons who fail to abide by these rules.
